1) Plug in USB flash drive. 2) Press “Record.”
The video conference is underway. One of the participants says something important and you furiously try copying what he or she said into a piece of paper. By the time you’re done writing that note, you’ve already lost pace with the rest of the conversation. Rather than derailing the conference by asking everyone to backtrack, you struggle to keep up, and that one note has cost you a lot of productivity points.
That example is just one reason why video call recording is such an important tool. Take notes later and engage with the conversation now. Video conferences are all about real-time communications and collaboration.
More reasons for video call recording:
- To take notes after the conference is over
- To broadcast a recorded video to clients and shareholders
- To upload a video to YouTube or another streaming site
- To create training videos and streamline orientation
A meeting room can become a recording studio with the right video conferencing equipment. Produce instructional videos, important communications and other media. Video recording capabilities go well beyond conferencing.
The number one purpose for video recording, however, is to record a call. It ensures that you’re always in-tune to the participants.
Call recording with Yealink VCS
Yealink VCS video conferencing systems include call recording. Why is this important? Not all video conferencing systems, especially those in a similar price range, have this feature built in.
Adding the call recording feature to other video conferencing systems means buying expensive licenses and hardware. Or, in some cases, creating a Frankenstein call recording solution out of hardware that wasn’t meant to work together… like connecting a VCR player to a codec’s video out port.
The Yealink VC400 and VC120 video conferencing systems provide HD 1080p video recording, with no further provisioning required. All of the software is already onboard—all that you need is a standard USB storage/flash device.
No IT services or technicians are required to set up the feature. If you know how to use a remote control, then you know how to start recording a call with a Yealink VCS video conferencing system. Plug a USB storage device into the codec and use the remote control to start recording. What you see on the display(s) is recorded to the USB device.
How does it work?
Press the record button on the remote control. Start recording video when the system is idle or while a call is in progress. A small red dot will indicate that recording has begun. The Yealink VCP40 speakerphone will also show recording progress, with a “Stop REC” soft key if you don’t want to use the remote control.
Important information:
- USB drive must be formatted to FAT32
- Video is recorded to .mkv (Matroska Video) format
Video playback can be achieved through the Yealink VCS codec or your computer. Unplug the device from the codec’s USB port and plug it into your computer’s USB port. An application like VLC Media Player may be required to playback video in .mkv format if your computer’s default media player is not compatible.
Yealink VCS is a new entry to the video conferencing market. It’s quickly revolutionizing the category by offering features like built-in call recording. If you want to experience all of the benefits of video conferencing now, rather than paying for more features in the future, the Yealink VCS systems are the way to go.
