What’s the difference between Logitech Tap, Tap IP and Tap Scheduler?

In the business world, Logitech is known for their collaboration solutions that particularly excel in being interoperable with wide ranges of platforms. They design stylish devices for solving everyday problems.

To meet the increasing demand for professional video conferencing solutions, Logitech has introduced three similarly named devices: Logitech Tap, Logitech Tap IP and Logitech Tap Scheduler.

At heart, all three of these devices are 10.1-inch tablet-like touchscreen panels that simplify the process of video conferencing. How are they different? The basic differences are these:

  1. Tap and Tap IP are touch controllers. They sit on a table in a conference room, providing a management center for the room. Tap Scheduler is a scheduling panel that is typically installed on the wall outside a meeting room so people can check room availability, schedule meetings and so on.
  2. Tap is powered using the included power supply and connects to your network via Ethernet. Tap IP is powered using PoE (Power Over Ethernet) and connects to your network via Ethernet or Wi-Fi.

Logitech Tap Scheduler

Let’s break these differences down a bit more.

Logitech Tap Scheduler is the most different. If you’re looking for a dedicated panel that you can install outside a meeting room to see who’s booked the room or whether the room is in use or book the room yourself for an impromptu or future meeting, that’s Tap Scheduler. It has red/green LED lights on the side to indicate at a glance if the room is available and its base is not angled, like the other two. Tap Scheduler organizes and simplifies the conferencing process in offices.

Logitech Tap and Tap IP are very similar. Both are touch controllers for meeting rooms that sit on a base angled at 14°, making it easy to use while ensuring that it isn’t obtrusive on the conference table. They both have integrated motion sensors, so they wake up automatically when a user approaches. Both are intended as a dedicated management console for a conference room, giving the user a simple way to start meetings, adjust cameras and more.

How do you choose between them? Besides important differences in platform compatibility, which we cover in the final section of this blog, the primary differences between the two are how you power the device and what you can connect it to.

Logitech Tap is powered using the included power supply. It has HDMI connectivity for wired content sharing, two USB ports (one USB-C and one USB-A) and a 3.5 mm jack for headphones.

Logitech Tap IP is powered using PoE (Power Over Ethernet) from a PoE switch or PoE injector. Tap IP has Wi-Fi connectivity, but it lacks HDMI, USB or 3.5 mm connectivity. It’s also worth noting that Tap IP is less expensive (based on MSRP).

You’ll need to weigh which set of options you prefer. Which one is best for you really depends on your preferences.

Logitech Tap, Tap IP and Tap Scheduler Compatibility

Finally, the three products differ in what platforms they’re compatible with.

Tap Scheduler is currently compatible with Microsoft Teams, Zoom Rooms, Meetio and Robin. Meetio and Robin, according to Logitech, “integrate with Google Calendar and are certified as room scheduling solutions for Google Workspace.”

The situation with Tap and Tap IP is, unfortunately, more complex. For example, Tap is certified for Microsoft Teams Rooms on Android and on Windows, but Tap IP is only certified for Microsoft Teams Rooms on Android. Make sure you doublecheck compatibility before purchase.
